The city lies at the foot of the castle, surrounded by a sturdy wall. Its privileged location, its arcaded streets, its ancestral homes, their magic corners and a rich cultural heritage are some of the reasons which have led it to be a Historic Artistic.  These lands were inhabited about 60 million years ago by the great dinosaurs now aims to become a World Heritage Site.

Castillo de Xivert

The castle has two well-differented parts:  the Arab and the Christian.  The first is the external part which was built in the tenth and eleventh centuries.  It has great canvas paintings in tapestry crownes with merlons and is accessed through the Albacar Gate.  Inside, we still see good samples of Moorish domestic architecture.

A the summit is the Templar fortress which includes a chapel, spacious dependency sections, stables and several towers.  The southern part is notable for its two circular towers and the rock wall, as well as the well that provides water for the castle, with a lowered vault.
