The Castle of Peñiscola is the fortress which is on the highest part of the rock where the old city of Peñiscola is located. It is in the northern part of the Valencian Community Region, in the sea, completely walled and a narrow stretch of sandy land connects it to the mainland. Formerly, this stretch of land would be underwater during high tide. Now it is occupied by the new city of Peñiscola a first class tourist destination .

There are many reasons to visit Morella. All Iberian civilizations, Celts, Greeks, Romans, Carthagurians and Arabs have left traces on its way through the capital of the región of Els Ports, where they have found also neolithic rests of the bronze age.
The city lies at the foot of the castle, surrounded by a sturdy wall. Its privileged location, its arcaded streets, its ancestral homes, their magic corners and a rich cultural heritage are some of the reasons which have led it to be a Historic Artistic. These lands were inhabited about 60 million years ago by the great dinosaurs now aims to become a World Heritage Site.
Castillo de Xivert
The castle has two well-differented parts: the Arab and the Christian. The first is the external part which was built in the tenth and eleventh centuries. It has great canvas paintings in tapestry crownes with merlons and is accessed through the Albacar Gate. Inside, we still see good samples of Moorish domestic architecture.
A the summit is the Templar fortress which includes a chapel, spacious dependency sections, stables and several towers. The southern part is notable for its two circular towers and the rock wall, as well as the well that provides water for the castle, with a lowered vault.
